Rebeccu abandoned village

Rebeccu is part of the municipality of Bonorva, Province of Sassari, which is about six kilometers distant. The center is set halfway up the hill of Cuccuru de Pischinas (408 m) and from this position it dominates the plain of Saint Lucia. Starting from the 15th c., probably due to plagues and famines, the decline of Rebeccu began: a census of 1485 indicates a population between 280 and 350 with 70 surveyed fires, while in 1589 it had declined to 228 and 57 fires. In '600 there were 27 families (39 males and 41 females); one hundred and fifty inhabitants at the end of '800, six families in the fifties and one inhabitant resident since January 2007.
